As a children’s author, I admire the imaginative stories
children tell me. Children have their own vision and imagination which may not
necessarily follow an authors story. Here are a few points which I would like
to share with you about the importance of reading to children.
1. Develops Curiosity
When reading books children develop
curiosity. They are intrigued to find out what happens next in the story. They
develop the greatest confidence of creating their own story.
2. Social Skills
Children develop the understanding of how,
when and why. This results in children becoming confidence in developing social
skills.
3. Problem Solving
Problem solving is core to childrens understanding how to tackle a certain
problem. It is through reading that children learn to ask questions and what
could have been done differently.
4. New Writers
Todays readers are our future writers.
Reading books everyday gives children the confidence and opportunities to
create their own stories and convert them into play.
